Pitching Guidelines
The two core components of the Wasatch Baseball Club have been and continue to be player development and player safety. The club is designed as a feeder program for the high school and as such it is important to develop as many capable pitchers as possible at each level to support one high school currently and two high schools in the near future.
There is a great deal of information out there regarding youth pitching and an ever-increasing amount of arm injuries at the youth, high school, college and even pro levels. The club looked at recommendations and guidelines concerning youth pitching, in particular, and found that there was a very consistent consensus.
We recognize that most tournaments do not enforce or track pitch counts and instead rely on innings. We also recognize that other teams may or may not consider pitch counts. That being said, there is a need to be cognizant of pitch counts with young arms. Arm injuries tend to be cumulative. With youth arms that are still very much growing and developing from a physical standpoint overuse may or may not show itself in the moment, or even in the short term, but contribute to a larger issue down the road.
